DESCRIPTION

The main purpose of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the basic, structuring components of agri-food systems, which will be explained in a unique, specific and practical way in the subsequent courses of the Master.

The developing of this introductory course is based on a dynamic based on the method of successive approaches, from the elementary components (e.g.: singular agrifood products, agrarian productive processes, etc.) to the more complex ones (e.g.: agrifood chain, agrarian productive systems, etc.), in order to facilitate the understanding of the structure, systems of relations and dynamics of modern agrifood systems in all their complexity.

The aim is to set the student's initial analytical capacity to provide the conceptual knowledge base needed for subsequent courses and also to frame and contextualise the singular and specific elements in a general framework which becomes necessary for management activities in the agri-food business.

OBJECTIVES

  • To handle the basic concepts for the analysis of agri-food systems and their unique components.

  • To describe the functioning of the unique structural components (products, processes, etc.) of complex agrifood systems, as well as their properties and characteristics.

  • Explain the structure and dynamics of complex agri-food systems.

  • To identify, characterise and assess the structural components of agrifood systems, oriented towards the creation of initial and specific knowledge necessary for the management of agrifood companies in all their relevant areas.
